Petition Action

Government to call on Ofcom - Ban abortion advertising as offensive to all 'faith' communities.

Additional Information

Call for the Government to call on Ofcom, particularly, where the Broadcasting Code 2009 - 'Harm and Offence' is concerned, to ban all TV and future Radio adverts, which overtly or covertly, point to or state abortion as any kind of option. This kind of material is offensive to the religious sensibilities of people of all faiths in the UK, and we hereby, call for a ban.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Advertising in the UK is controlled through a system of co-regulation and self regulation, which is enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). This regulatory system is independent of Government and is ultimately responsible for setting the standards in advertising.

The ASA regulates advertising in all media and they ensure that advertisements, wherever they appear, comply, in full, with the requirements of the UK advertising codes – in particular that they are legal, decent, honest and truthful.
