Petition Action

Right to Recall

Additional Information

To introduce a Bill that gives citizens the right to recall their MP.

A recall petition must be signed by a sizeable number (to be determined by Parliament) of constituents and a completed petition should be sent to Parliament. Once the petition has been validated by Parliament then a recall referendum should be held in that constituency on as to whether the voters approve or disprove of the recall of their elected representative.

If the recall referendum returns a majority in favour of recall, then the Member of Parliament should be immediately removed from their position and a by-election called for an appropriate date in the near future.

Only eligible voters should have the ability to sign the recall petition or vote in the recall referendum.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
