GP budget holders’ decisions should not be subjected to ‘post code’ funding of new expensive drugs. 2nd GP surgery may be outside catchment area
As GP become budget holders for treatment within the NHS and also with private healthcare providers; their decisions should be open to second opinion, as well as appeal. This can address patients concerns and also check any possible conflicts of interest in GPs' decisions. Also GP budget holders’ decisions should not be subjected to ‘post code’ funding of new expensive drugs and treatment. GP catchment areas should be widened and a patient should be able to register for a second GP surgery in an area in UK where the patient has substantial contact with (like location of workplace, educational establishment, family member’s residence, convenience of travel). Changing registration with GP surgeries should be made easier and facilitated online.
