Petition Action

Allow consumers to impose penatly charges on financial institutions

Additional Information

Banks, credit card/loan companies, utility firms and other financial institutions can penalise consumers whenever payments are late, missed, incorrect, or even early or over the agreed amount.
The government should allow consumers the same right to impose a £12 penalty chargeon a business e.g. whenever businesses take early/late/incorrect payments from them. The Direct Debit guarantee does not go far enough in protecting consumer rights and this would incentivise financial institutions and other businesses to charge/bill and collect payments properly.
