Remove MPs 'special' income tax exemption for accommodation expenses

Petition Details

MPs advocate fairness, so should experience fairness in the tax system.

MPs have an exemption from the rules applied to other taxpayers by Income Tax (Earnings & Pensions) 2003 Sections 292

Additional Information

I believe their 'special' treatment is unfair treatment and should end.

Government and Treasury statements on IR35 Off-Payroll, repeated by Ministers and MPs in response to constituents questions, have made it clear that equal and fair tax treatment is appropriate and necessary. Further it has widespread support in the House of Commons

Two workers in the same situation, e.g. working away from home during the week, in Westminster should receive the same tax and expenses treatment.

Ensure that two workers whose work necessarily requires them to be at a location, e.g. Westminster, are treated identically. MPs should not be subject to different rules in ITEPA 2003 s292.

Make the Tax system equitable and fair.
