Expert nursing care for for people at home
• District nursing services are in decline.
• The number of qualified District Nurses is decreasing
• Those retiring are being replaced with personnel who have less experience and qualifications.
• Policies aim to move 80% of care into the community resulting in many more very sick people being cared for at home.
• This has not been mirrored by an increase in service provision to care for these people.
• If action is not taken, many very ill people will not receive the expert care that they need.
This petition requires the Department of Health to ensure that the appropriate infrastructure, including the education and preparation of District Nurses is put in place to make certain that people who need to be cared for at home are nursed by adequately resourced District Nursing teams
