Petition Action

New tougher data laws giving the public the right of access to all their records

Petition Details

We call Parliament, our 650 MPs to debate & update our current data laws & ineffective complaint systems which are broken & beyond repair due to the conduct of organisations who withhold/alter/deface/block/erase/destroy/conceal records/data preventing full disclosure, the biggest cause of injustice

Additional Information

Many people are obstructed from pursuing complaints/appeals regarding failure & abuse by organisations. Reform should include:

The public being able to access all their records through the responsible government departments

Disclosure must be within 30 days

Setting up a new free single tribunal with more powers & ability to call witnesses & heavily fine organisations if they fail to comply

If a criminal offence is detected, this should be automatically passed to the CPS to consider criminal charges

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Most of the actions the petition calls for are already law and enforcable by the ICO. You can find out more here -

ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/your-right-to-get-copies-of-your-data/

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
