Petition Action

Freeze accounts of online traders exploiting national shortages (eg hand gel)

Petition Details

Government to clamp down on online traders selling items for inflated prices in times of national need.

Additional Information

Many online traders on Amazon and ebay are selling hand gel at inflated prices causing many people to either pay up or go without essential health products. Specifically during the onset of the Coronavirus outbreak. This situation could occur in future times of need if not stopped. Shelves are empty in local stores so some people’s health may be compromised.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government and Parliament are not responsible for how online traders sell consumer goods.

You could start a petition calling for the Government to introduce legislation requiring retailers not to sell certain types of products for more than their Recommended Retail Price, or to make essential goods freely available to the public during the coronavirus outbreak.
