Petition Action

Long term unemployed should perform local community work.

Additional Information

Anyone receiving Jobseekers allowance for more then 6 months should be required to work part time in the local community.

There are many councils struggling to keep community services running due to budgets cuts. If the long term unemployed earned a portion of their benefits or received a top-up for working in the community then this would benefit everyone.

Exceptions would obviously need to be made as not everyone in long-term unemployment would be in a position to give something back to the community;

Exception would be;
* Anyone receiving Disability allowance.
* Anyone working part-time.
* Single parents
.
