Petition Action

Suspend Mortgage payments for COVID-19 in the UK

Petition Details

Suspend Mortgage payments for self containment and if national lock down over COVID-19 occurs in the UK from day one until normal daily life is back in order.

Additional Information

Many people will not be able to manage mortgage payments due to low self employment income, low paid employment income and sickness payment if the UK is to go in to lock down and people need to self contain, there will be many people with no reserves to maintain their mortgage and usual bills. It seems a reasonable and fair to follow in the footsteps of Spain and do so as it is the governments responsibility to retain Pandemic in the first place.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Suspending payments for mortgage payments is a matter for individual mortgage providers, and not the UK Government or Parliament.

We have published a petition calling for the Government to introduce a Universal Basic Income to give people home and food security during the coronavirus outbreak: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/302284
