Explain the state pension

Petition Details

Can someone please explain to this pensioner the government minimum wage is so that people can live reasonably on this money. The minimum wage is £8.52 an hour x 40 equals £340 x12 equals £16.358 PA. Why is it that pensioner who have given 50 years tax and NI are give £8630 to live comfortably.

Additional Information

I feel that the pension system is a disgrace we are being forced to work longer and if we manage to reach retirement age before we start pushing up the daisies we are expected to live off crumbs and hand outs

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you are concerned about level of the state pension, but it's not clear what you want the Government to do about this.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
