Petition Action

The ban on late fees and Bailiff collections during delay phase of Covid 19.

Petition Details

During the delay phase of Covid 19 if you self isolate to protect the public, late payment fees, and Bailiffs Warrants need to be scrapped until further notice. Any evictions for less rent whilst on ssp from isolation should be made illegal, until a clear date when the virus is dropping.

Additional Information

Because it will allow more people to self isolate and stay at home and keep children off of school more freely without fear of persecution, further debt, or risk eviction. Less of that fear factor and more people will stay at home.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Suspending late payment fees and orders for bailiffs is a matter for lenders and the courts, and not the UK Government or Parliament.

We have published a petition calling for the Government to implement Universal Basic Income to give home and food security during the coronavirus outbreak: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/302284
