Change the way zero hour contracted carers are not paid Statutory Sick Pay.

Petition Details

As a carer in the community a lot us are on zero hour contracts. We do not get paid sick pay and we are not entitled to Statutory Sick Pay. This needs to change

Additional Information

As Community Carers have no choice to continue working with vulnerable people with low immunity, with viruses or colds that could well infect and possibly kill those at risk.
We all have high bills to pay and need to keep a roof above ours heads. And we also work hard at trying to keep those we look after out of hospitals.
Unsociable hours in all weather's, out in the sticks, doing many miles in our cars looking after those in need.
We do not need to be put under more pressure with no SSP.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

Workers on zero hours contracts can qualify for Statutory Sick if they meet the entitlement criteria.

One reason some workers on zero hours contracts might not qualify for Statutory Sick Pay is the minimum earnings threshold. We have published a petition calling for the minimum earnings threshold for Statuory Sick Pay: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/300669
