Petition Action

Open up UK print media online paywalls/subscriptions for COVID-19 reporting

Petition Details

Instruct national and local UK print media publications to make all reporting on COVID-19/Coronavirus free to the public to read online.
All COVID-19 reporting, advice and information should be removed from behind the paywall/subscription.

Additional Information

At this time of national and international crisis the general public must have access to reliable and trustworthy information.

Verifiable, factual information that has the potential to save lives should be free.

The general public should not have to rely on social media for the facts and advice, where it can be difficult to differentiate between the truth and fake news.

If true COVID-19/Coronavirus information online can save lives, we should be able to read it for free.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government can't instruct the media to remove paywalls in respect of certain content. You could start a petition asking for the Government to work with the media to encourage them to do this, or to pass legislation preventing media outlets from putting certain content behind paywalls.
