Petition Action

Force broadband suppliers to use an impartial speed test.

Petition Details

Make broadband suppliers use an impartial (not company linked) speed test to ensure they are supplying their customers with a satisfactory service.

Additional Information

A lot of broadband suppliers say they offer a speed guarantee but this is only if their customers use their specified speed test website. Now given this is connecting to the suppliers' servers, this can be manipulated very easily. These speed test services should only be allowed to be run by verified and impartial third parties.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Government and Parliament aren't responsible for enforcing advertising broadband speeds.

You could start a petition calling for statutory minimum broadband speeds, if that's something you'd like to see happen .
