End the public funding of bars in the House of Commons
Bars in the House Commons should not be subsidised by taxpayers' money.
All alcohol should be excluded from the House of Commons Catering and Retail Service.
There is no justification for Members of Parliament to imbibe intoxicating liquor at the taxpayers' expense.
Recent events (arrest for suspicion of assault of Labour MP Eric Joyce) highlight that this practice is completely unacceptable.
One of the stated function of the cabinet office is "ensuring value for money to the taxpayer."
The taxpayer sees absolutely no benefit whatever from MPs drinking alcohol at their expense.
Action required from government:
Exclude all alcoholic drinks from the House of Commons Catering and Retail Service.
