Petition Action

Limit the influence of UNELECTED special advisers like Dominic Cummings

Petition Details

In December 2019 29.3% of the electorate voted for the Conservative Party. However, they did NOT specifically vote for any special advisers - like Dominic Cummings and his controversial methods and views.

Additional Information

The government is accountable to the people of this country and transparency is paramount. Sadly, we currently have a PM who only seems capable of reproducing sound bites - or worse, appears completely absent. The public has the right to know who's 'running the show'.

In this context the disproportionate power and influence of special advisers - especially when they are as controversial as Mr Cummings (remember his questionable role in the 2016 referendum?) needs to be urgently addressed.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do to change the role of Special Advisers.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, for example a change to the Special Adviser Code of Conduct, which you can read here:
