Petition Action

Allow the vulnerable people in our society to have an hour a day to shop.

Petition Details

The government to ask all supermarkets to have an hour a day for elderly and families with disabled children or disabled adults to go shopping without having to queue, or without begin pushed around.
This will enable them to buy the items on a daily basis as some people live day to day.

Additional Information

Some families in our society have to care for disabled children, disabled young adults and elderly family members. Some of these people are most vulnerable and need additional help. These families are the unpaid carers in our society, if they fall ill who will look after the people they care for. This is why they need an hour a day to be allowed to shop without the mass of people around them and are allowed to buy the goods they need not only for themselves but the people they care for.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.

The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
