Fund provision of internet and communication devices to over 70s during outbreak
The government must ensure that the over 70s are able to communicate with the outside world if they are in isolation for months. Not only will this help ensure their safety but it will help protect the mental health of those who may depend upon human contact to avoid depression.
The government should make funding available for the vulnerable elderly to have temporary free access to the internet, a basic device with a browser and a program (eg Skype) to facilitate video contact. This should not be means tested and the families, friends or neighbours of those in need should be able to make an application on behalf of those who either do not have already have such facilities and or cannot afford to acquire them.
