Restart community testing and tracking for Covid-19.
Immediately restart a vigorous programme of testing and contact tracking for Covid-19 within the community, and urgently build the capability to perform as many tests as are needed to do this.
The WHO-China report on the successful containment of Covid-19 in China states:
‘Fundamental to these measures is extremely proactive surveillance to immediately detect cases, very rapid diagnosis and immediate case isolation, rigorous tracking and quarantine of close contacts.'
Public Health England’s current policy is that ‘People who are in the community with a fever or cough do not usually need testing.’
