Raise statutory sick pay to a liveable amount during the coronavirus pandemic
Raise statutory sick pay in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, to ensure those who do the right thing by self isolating don’t end up in debt, in poverty or destitute. These potential outcomes may lead to individuals still working, despite the necessity the remain in self-isolation.
People who are preventing the spread of the coronavirus during the pandemic, saving lives, do not deserve to go into poverty.
Furthermore, the inadequacy of the current statutory sick pay (£94.25/week) means people who should take time off, may not for fear of the financial circumstances the current statutory sick pay may leave them in.
This will ultimately contribute to the severity of the coronavirus pandemic nationally.
