During Covid-19 Pandemic give elderly priority access to supermarkets (7am-11am)
We have already seen mass hysteria and panic buying at supermarkets, the elderly are most affected and vulnerable to Covid-19 virus and are turning up to supermarkets to find essential items out of stock. The environment created by this hysteria is also daunting and worrying in an already
uncertain and anxious so situation. Many elderly are already isolated and no immediate family to help them get resources and so heading out to supermarkets is their only way to survive. The government should enforce large supermarkets who have the resource to police this restriction through existing security guards, to allow the elderly (70+) to have the space and dignity they deserve to buy the items they need to ride out this epidemic.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.
The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
