Time for elderly shoppers only in supermarkets during the COVID-19 pandemic
Enforce that supermarkets open their doors only to elderly people for a length of time, an hour or two, during the COVID-19 pandemic so that our elderly are assured of getting basic groceries and household items
Many elderly people have been unable to buy basic items due to panic buying, especially as their stricter weekly budgets do not allow for stockpiling in elderly households. Elderly people are less able to go grocery shopping early in the morning (when many wait for supermarket doors to open), cannot afford to stockpile, and have been unable to buy even basic groceries due to empty shelves

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.
The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
