Petition Action

Prioritise food supply deliveries for the vulnerable and poor

Petition Details

We need the government to prioritise food and essential household item deliveries for those who are elderly, disabled, chronically ill or low income. Special dietary requirements should be taken into account for the ill and disabled. The costs of these deliveries should be subsidised.

Additional Information

Because we need urgent action now to prevent the unnecessary suffering of the most vulnerable in our society.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers and to prioritise deliveries for such people. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.

The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation.
