Petition Action

Do not use mock exam grades as A level grades in substitute of real exams

Petition Details

The government must discuss with members of the educational sector that have first hand experience of exam preparation and grading on how to move forward with this situation. Many students will also be eager to have their say and in such an adverse situation, different perspective must be considered

Additional Information

It would be simply unfair and reckless to not allow students to sit exams they were expecting to sit in April, May and June. Due to various different circumstances, a student’s previous attainment will never be accurate of their full capability when they believe they have the safety net of end of course exams. The government’s decision on how to handle this exam cancellation will affect current students well into their adult lives and must be considered carefully.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here:

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition:

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
