Petition Action

Prevent GCSE & A-level pupils in 2020 from being awarded their predicted grades.

Petition Details

THOUSANDS of pupils could be awarded their predicted grades as their exams are cancelled.
POSTPONE the exams and make pupils actually take the exams before awarding them grades. PREVENT students from being awarded grades they NEVER achieved(predictions). This ensures fairness and equal opportunity!

Additional Information

With thousands facing the prospect of being awarded grades they never achieved, it would be simply be unfair. Predictions are not achieved results and teachers differ in judgement for what a student may achieve. It would be unfair on students who got poor predictions and did not receive the chance to improve in the real exams. It would be unfair on every other student in other years as well as adults who had to achieve their grades not be awarded based off of inaccurate and unequal judgement.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here:

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition:

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
