Petition Action

Raise the minimum wage for Care Workers to reflect the important job they do

Petition Details

Raise the minimum hourly wage for care workers, who are more skilled than many and do one of the hardest but most rewarding jobs in the country. The job they do daily is not reflected in their wage

Additional Information

Because I personally watch care staff on a daily basis care for the vulnerable, an emotional, mentally and physically demanding job. These staff continue to come to work the front line in the midst of a pandemic and do so with a smile. These people are unsung hero's that deserve this reflected in the wage they are paid

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK Government sets a National Minimum Wage and a National Living Wage, which applies to all workers. The Government and Parliament are not responsible for setting minimum wages for particular industries. This is a matter for individual employers.

We have published a petition calling for the Government to increase the minimum wage, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/301749

We have also published petitions calling for key workers to be given hazard pay, a bonus, and tax relief, which you might like to sign:
