Petition Action

Add Veterinary staff to the list of Keyworkers.

Petition Details

Consider Veterinary Staff as Keyworkers to allow their children to be schooled during partial school closures caused by Covid-19.

Additional Information

The Veterinary sector is predominantly a female workforce and mothers will be unable to work if their children are not at school. Many heavily rely upon elder relatives to care for their children during the holidays, but have been told under strict guidelines not to use them under the circumstances. With already vast numbers of workers in isolation, this will directly impact the medical care of our beloved pets.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Since you started this petition, the Government has published guidance for schools on maintaining educational provision for the children of key workers. Following this, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and British Veterinary Association (BVA) issued a joint statement to provide clarification for veterinary surgeons, stating that those involved in urgent care or care related to farm animals can be considered key workers : www.rcvs.org.uk/news-and-views/news/coronavirus-rcvs-and-bva-issue-joint-guidance-on-key-worker/
