Petition Action

Do not cancel GCSE's and A level exams, instead postpone them a few months

Petition Details

Postpone key exams instead of cancelling. Give young people a chance to earn their qualifications and go through this right if passage. Put measures in place which allows them to safely sit these exams ie small numbers, social distancing, extra hygiene procedures. Whatever it takes

Additional Information

These young people have been working towards these exams for most of their lives and for them not to be given the opportunity to earn these qualifications fairly is unfair. My daughter and her peers have worked so hard to prepare for her GCSEs and it is unfair that predicted grades maybe used for final results. Most achieve higher grades than predicted grades. Do not deprive our young people of an essential step towards becoming adults.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here:
www.gov.uk/government/news/further-details-on-exams-and-grades-announced

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition:

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
