Don’t cancel the summer exams.
The government’s decision to cancel all academic exams this year is premature and unnecessary. There are other options to consider, such as taking exams at home whilst exam board officials monitor via a webcam or postponing exams till August. We urge the government to reconsider this decision.
Students have already finished the syllabus and are revising at home. The exam rules state that they will be placed a minimum distance of 1.25m apart, which could be increased to 1.5m. Entry and exit to the exam hall can be controlled to prevent transmission.
Predicted grades are assigned before the student has finished the syllabus and often results in them putting in months of hard work to improve. Using them will result in some students getting low grades that don't reflect their abilities.
