Suspend Placements for Healthcare Students During the COVID-19 Outbreak
The government should cancel placements for healthcare students. The continuation of these placements poses a risk to students. They are paying vast sums of money only to be denied the opportunity to learn due to COVID-19's impact. Instead, they are treated as free labour in impossible settings.
Many universities have closed their campuses and cancelled placements for student doctors due to a perceived risk to student wellbeing. These same risks apply to healthcare students. The current situation in hospitals also means that learning opportunities are limited. They are being treated as unpaid healthcare assistants.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Student placements are a matter for the educational institutions the student is enrolled in, the organisation sponsoring the placement, and the regulatory bodies that are responsible for the qualifications, not the Government or Parliament.
If you have concerns about continuing with a placement you should raise these with the educational institution you are enrolled in, the organisation sponsoring your placement, and the relevant regulatory body.
