No relief for companies who do not pay their employees during the crisis.
Virgin Atlantic have told their employees to take eight weeks unpaid leave during the current corona virus crisis. Yet the company has asked for relief from the Government for loss of profits.
It seems very unfair that a company should be compensated and yet its employees should have to go unpaid.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It's not clear whether you want the Government not to provide financial support to Virgin Atlantic because of their plans to ask staff to take unpaid leave, or if you want the Government not to provide financial support to any company that furloughs its workers as a result of coronavirus.
Additionally, since you started your petition the Government has launched the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which will pay for 80% of an employee’s wages if they are put on furlough because of coronavirus: www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-for-wages-through-the-coronavirus-job-retention-scheme
