Petition Action

Fine businesses for not taking enough precautionary measures during coronavirus

Petition Details

A number of companies are not putting any precautionary measures in place to stop the spread of coronavirus. Put heavy fines on business who do not enforce social distancing, who do not screen employees upon arrival and who allow people to come back to work before the end of their quarantine

Additional Information

There are a number of business who simply care more about their profit margins than the Health and Safety of their employees. These business are helping speed up the spread of the virus. These are mostly businesses who utilise agency staff as their main work force and simply do not care how many people get sick, as they can always replace them with another temp.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the independent regulator that works to prevent workplace death, injury or ill health. Where it identifies employers who are not taking action to comply with the relevant Public Health England (PHE) guidance to control public health risks, such as employers not taking appropriate action to socially distance or ensure workers in the shielded category can follow the NHS advice to self-isolate for the period specified, they can take a range of actions to improve control of workplace risks. These actions include the provision of specific advice to employers through to issuing enforcement notices to help secure improvements with the PHE guidance.

We're therefore not sure what further action you want the UK Government or Parliament to take.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to close all non-essential workplaces that can't enforce social distancing, if that's what you'd like to happen.
