Petition Action

Cancel GCSEs for all years that have already started their GCSE course.

Petition Details

For all years that have started their GCSE courses in the school year of 2019-2020, GCSEs should be cancelled for them. This would be year 9/10 depending on schools.Their predicted grades should be given as their results as this portrays their level of ability without them having to do the tests.

Additional Information

GCSEs should be cancelled for students in year 9 or year 10 in the academic year 2019-2020 as due to the closure of schools they would be missing a large amount of their content especially those that are doing up to 12 GCSEs where even starting in year 9 is not enough time to complete all content. By cancelling GCSEs for these years they will not have to worry about missing such a large amount of content for their examinations and the stress will be taken off them for not doing well in them.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, and are not a matter for the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here: www.gov.uk/government/news/further-details-on-exams-and-grades-announced

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/306773

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
