Petition Action

Students don’t want ‘calculated grades’, they want grades from final exams!

Petition Details

Urgently review the decision to give A-Level and GCSE students ‘calculated grades’. The decision which will impact thousands of lives was made in days and will only benefit the minority of students. All students should be given grades based on final examinations like all previous years.

Additional Information

The calculated grades will partly be decided from previous mock exams which students could easily cheat in. In addition to this, mock exams were not meant to decide our final grades and the effort put in preparing for them are often no where near the effort put in for our actual final exams.

Conditional offers from universities and sixth forms will be based on these calculated grades and therefore could result in you being rejected, even though you could’ve done much better in the final exam.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here:

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition:

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
