Amidst Covid-19 crisis, pay NHS staff more!
Government have asked 50,000 nurses to come out of retirement to help with the Covid-19 pandemic.
A standard band 5 NHS nurse has a starting salary of a little over £24,000. To ask 50,000 nurses to come back on that wage would equate to the NHS paying out over £1200Million.
Despite this crisis the government has not offered NHS staff any pay rise or pay incentive whilst dealing with this panic.
We are working harder and longer hours, whilst simultaneously putting our own health on the line.
I know it’s our job, but at the best of times a £24,000 salary for a staff nurse is not enough, so it most definitely is not enough now!
It’s alright recognising that NHS staff are doing a fantastic job, but pay rises and incentives need to happen! And they are needed NOW!
