Allow swimming pools and gyms to remain open during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The government has decided to close venues 'that bring people together' in the effort to control transmission of the Covid-19 virus. Swimming pools and gyms which offer only individual, rather than group based, exercise should be allowed to stay open and not be included in these sanctions.
Swimming pools and gyms allow for isolated activity, such as lap swimming and weight training. These activities do not require interaction between people, and social distancing and hygiene can be maintained. The benefits of exercise, both physical and mental, have long been promoted by governments and health specialists.
Individual exercise in swimming pools and gyms cannot be described as 'bringing people together', and closing them would have a negative effect on peoples well-being.
