Inclusion of the Self-Employed to the 80% salary pledge
The Chancellor announced a serious of measures to save the UK economy which failed to support the 4.8+ million self-employed, freelance & gig economy related workers of the UK.
The UK government should be offering an equal package to those who are self-employed & have been affected.
Quoting The Federation of Small Business:
“The question at this point is – with firms being forced to close – why have the self-employed been excluded from the commitment to pay 80% of earnings?
“It cannot be right that an employee currently earning £25,000 a year could access £20,000 per annum through the new job retention scheme, while someone who’s self-employed earning the same sum might only access around £5,000 worth of support.”

Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
