Self Employed to also be able claim (up to) 80% of earnings during Covid-19.
Self employed people are currently only allowed to claim Universal Credit due to loss of income related to Covid-19. They are also not eligible for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
I am proposing that the U.K. government include self employed people in the Corona Virus job retention scheme.
Many self employed people have had to close their businesses to aid in slowing the spread of Covid-19.
The only financial help they have been offered is Universal credit, the maximum monthly allowance (per person) is just over £250.
Employment Support Allowance (ESA) has also been offered, however this at least £20 - £40 less per week than SSP.
For the vast majority of people this is simply not enough to pay their mortgage and provide for their families.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
