Give the self-employed the same protection you are giving employees
The government have announced that they are going to cover up to 80% of employee salaries. This is great for the employees, but they have left the self-employed people out of this, stating that they should sign up for Universal Credit... This is not even close to good enough.
The self-employed pay their taxes the same as everyone else and are going to be among the worst affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Without proper support, you are leaving the self-employed out to rot, people will lose their homes and end up in mountains of debt.
Please give the self-employed the same treatment everyone else is getting and help us get through this together.

Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
