Petition to offer the self employed 80% of their earnings up to £2500 a month
The government recently announced several aids for businesses and PAYE staff. The help offered for self employed is not satisfactory. If employed people are given 80% of their income guaranteed up to £2500 during covid-19, so should gig-economy workers and the self employed. This is only fair.
A huge proportion of the UK are self employed, freelance workers in entertainment, construction, beauty, transport to name a few. Yesterday the government promised up to £2500 for all employed workers. The self employed have been offered £92 a week. Thousands of uniquely skilled workers will be unable to live on what has been offered and will suffer great hardship. This will force thousands into bankruptcy and poverty.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
