Petition Action

Limit the number of customers into supermarkets to protect staff from Covid 19

Petition Details

Currently key workers and members of the public are being put at risk by supermarkets allowing 100's customers through the doors at one time. I want the government to work with the supermarkets to limit the number of people that can enter the store to stop the spread of Covid 19.

Additional Information

I would like the government to put restrictions on the supermarkets and enforce stores to have a set limit of how many people can enter the store at one time to stop the spread of Covid 19 to key workers and customers.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Since you started your petition the Government has issued guidance for food businesses on coronavirus, which recommends that supermarkets monitor the number of customers within store and limit access to avoid congestion: www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-for-food-businesses/guidance-for-food-businesses-on-coronavirus-covid-19

It is up to individual retailers to determine how they implement this guidance.
