Petition Action

Massively increase the public information campaign around Covid-19

Petition Details

The message to stay inside your house unless essential to leave and to stay at least 2m away from others if you have to leave is not being heeded. We need a massive public information campaign including adverts on all video streaming services and a regular SMS sent by mobile providers to all users.

Additional Information

Large numbers of people remain outside their homes for non essential reasons on high streets and in parks, congregating in queues for shops, outdoor cafes and on pathways. The message to stay at home or, if not, to remain 2m apart is clearly not getting through. The campaign should include regular SMS messages to all users, unskipable adverts on TV, Youtube, Netflix and others and signs at all park entrances. The message should not have to be sought out but rammed down people's throats.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government is running advertising campaigns and has sent a text message to people in the UK, as well as a letter to every household.

Decisions on which platforms are used are a commercial one, for which the Government and Parliament are not directly responsible
