Pay self-employed 80% of income lost to coronavirus based on previous accounts
Allow the self-employed who have lost income as a result of the coronavirus to receive 80% of that lost income, along with the rest of the workforce, based on previous years’ accounts and tax returns.
Many of the industries worst affected by social distancing measures are necessarily serviced by the self-employed. These people have rent, mortgages, and mouths to feed, and can reasonably expect their earnings to return to former levels once social distancing measures are over. In the meantime, they have, in many instances, seen healthy incomes drop to nothing overnight. They should be looked after along with everyone else and not discriminated against and forced to rely on basic welfare.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
