Fund Health and social care in the third and voluntary sector properly

Petition Details

We want the third and voluntary sector in health and social care funded adequately enough to renumerate their staff in line with the government guidelines on council staff in health and social care, Staff should not be penalised for where they choose to work

Additional Information

Around 1.1 million work in adult social care. Around 78% of social care jobs are in the independent sector and yet we are under funded to enable us to pay our staff properly these are the same staff that are supporting older people in care at this time of crisis

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you want the Government to change its approach to health and social care, but it's not clear what changes you want the Government to make.

The remuneration of staff working in the private or charitable sector is a matter for individual companies and charities, not the Government. The Government sets national minimum wages, but is not responsible for setting wages for particular groups of workers.

If you want the Government to increase funding for health and social care, with a view to reducing the need for private or charitable health and social care providers, you could start a new petition calling for this.

We have published a number of petitions calling on the Government to take actions to financial reward key workers due to the coronavirus outbreak, which you might like to sign:
