Postpone education for third year students till further notice
Postponing studies will support those who rely on the direct learning and experiences of the practical environments, such as dentistry and medical students. There are thousands of students disadvantaged by the closure of universities and its facilities, especially who do not have access to computers
It is not fair for these final stages of education to be delivered only through online and virtual learning. This will continue to disadvantage thousands of students from obtaining their desired degree and progressing onto the next stages of their careers.
This will help students in isolation as they will be able to focus more on achieving the grades they deserve at a later date with the right facilities and support that physical university environments provide.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, and decisions about university admissions are a matter for individual universities and UCAS, not the UK Government or Parliament.
We have published a petition calling on the Government to close all universities down for an appropriate amount of time amidst COVID-19, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/300628
If you have concerns about admissions you should raise these with UCAS, and if you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.
We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
