Petition Action

SFE to release student loans and grants earlier due to Covid-19

Petition Details

We struggle to communicate with Student Finance England (SFE) in regards to payments and evidence for extra help. Communication is only done via post/phone. SFE has always been so strict on when loans and grants are released, there is no other time than NOW that we need it more than anything!

Additional Information

We as students of the UK has to have the government enable us to receive our student loans and grants earlier from Student Finance England due to the crisis happening with Covid-19. We are due to get these loans and grants towards the end of April and as we are under lockdown and universities are closed we need our loans and grants not only to support ourselves but our families, friends and loved ones. This will lift at least weight off our shoulders when it comes to bills and necessities.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The payment of student loans is a matter for the Student Loans Company and Student Finance England, not the Government or Parliament.

We have published a petition calling on the Government to reimburse all students of this year’s fees due to strikes and COVID-19, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/302855

We have also published a petition calling on the Government to freeze student loan payments and interest accrual for Covid-19, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/308579

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
