Act NOW to enforce closure of construction sites and protect the self-employed.
The Government should be insisting on the closure of ALL businesses and activity that do not directly contribute to tackling the coronavirus situation and ensuring the safety of all of us. Construction sites are NOT "essential". They should be shut. Now.
Government advice is CLEAR that we should all be staying at home and working from home unless it is ESSENTIAL that we go to work. But the government has not defined "essential" other than through it's "key workers" list. Construction workers are currently being FORCED to continue working in order to get paid by their employers. As government assistance does not extend to the self-employed to date, employees are working. At risk to themselves. And all of us. PLEASE stop this. Now.
