Petition Action

Wave Exams/Assignments for final year University Students amidst Covid-19

Petition Details

Due to the stress of this years multiple strikes and now Covid-19 students have not been taught adequately to achieve the grades they would in other circumstances. I am asking the government to wave exams and assignments for final year students similar to what has happened to GCSE's and A levels.

Additional Information

This year final year students have experienced an enormous amount of stress. Firstly, we have had six whole weeks of strike and now cancellations to teaching due to Covid-19. We do not feel prepared. We are now expected to complete everything as normal without access to face to face teaching, without access to university libraries and whole the whole country is on lockdown. Not everyone has a the ability to work from home, whether that's due to lack of technology or care commitments.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, and decisions about university admissions are a matter for individual universities and UCAS, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about admissions you should raise these with UCAS, and if you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
