Petition Action

Prosecute and fine public servants if not complying with direct duties and law.

Petition Details

I would like that Government and Parliament would control more public servants/officer to make sure that officials do comply with their duties and law. Also official offenders should be published through media,so that public could know about these officials and could appreciate and trust Government.

Additional Information

So that public could trust and appreciate Government and Parliament. Public would know that public servants/officers could not do offences without being noticed by law and could not avoid prosecutions and fines.Public servants/officers would know and feel their responsibilities and would serve public more accurately.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you want public servants to be held accountable under the law, but it's not clear what action you want the Government to take to achieve this.

Civil and criminal law applies to most public servants in the same way as it does to everyone. Decisions about prosecuting public servants for criminal offences would be a matter for the police and Crown Prosecution Service, and decisions about taking civil action against public servants would be a private matter for any individuals who wanted to bring such action.

Some public servants are subject to additional codes, such as the Civil Service code, which the Government is responsible for enforcing. If you want the Government to publish details of cases where public servants are found to be in breach of the Civil Service code, you could start a new petition calling for this.
